Current Situation:
An active shooter situation is currently unfolding in Lewiston, Maine. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said they were investigating two active shooter events. Initial unconfirmed reports suggest several locations were targeted, including a Walmart distribution center, a bar, and a bowling alley. Unconfirmed reports indicate at least 22 are dead and more than 50 are injured.[2] Central Maine Medical Center announced they are responding to a mass casualty event without specifying the number of casualties.[3] The suspect is armed with a long-gun assault rifle and Lewiston has initiated a citywide shelter in place. A manhunt for the suspect is currently ongoing. All businesses and Lewiston residents are encouraged to lockdown.[4] The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)’s Boston office announced they are responding to the active shooter event(s).[5] Unconfirmed reports indicate the name of the suspect is Robert Card.[6] Below are additional images CTG Threat Hunters have identified. What is the current threat:
The shooter will very likely indiscriminately target civilians, likely proceeding to target densely populated public venues. The gunman not trying to cover his identity almost certainly makes him more dangerous, likely unsettled by public identification. The photographs of the suspect very likely suggest he is carrying several additional rifle magazines in his pockets.
Additional federal agencies, including the Boston field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), will almost certainly mobilize and provide support for the ongoing manhunt.
Misinformation on the ongoing event will almost certainly occur, likely speculating on the suspect’s motives, location, casualty numbers, ideology, and capture. Rumors will likely form that the event is related to the Israel-Hamas war.
